PRELIMINARY OBSERVED LATERAL WEST TO EAST SEASONAL CHANGES OF SEA SURFACE TEMPERATURE ALONG THE COAST OF NIGERIA: RESULTS FROM A NETWORK OF PROPAO ACTIVITIES

Sea surface temperature derived from the Onset Thermometers are assessed between longitudes 06 25' 18”N and 06 25' 19.5”N and longitudes 03o 28' 45.3”E and 03 o 28'32.5”E. Lateral variations in sea surface temperature profiles were observed from west to east within Nigeria. In the west sea surface temperatures averaged about 270C while in the east sea surface temperatures averaged 250C. The observed lateral seasonal SST changes derived from the Onset Themometer could enhance knowledge of metocean dynamics and climate variability in the region.
